The Custom Wound '54 Strat Clones are what we consider to be an improved version of the original 1954 Strat pickups. That's a bold statement and we all know they used superior materials back then. The tone was unique enough to set the standard of what we think to be the best Strat tone ever. The problem however, was that they were very inconsistent on the output levels and not well balanced from the neck pickup to the bridge pickup. Also, the middle pickup originally was not RWRP which is preferable in today's market as most Strat's are equipped with a 5-way switch and not a 3-way switch. With that said, Custom Wound has created a version of the 1954 Strat pickup that recreates those unmistakable 1954 tones and also meets the specific needs of most any modern day player. We use the exact same, sand cast Alnico 3 magnets which produce a beautiful clear tone full of articulate highs and warmth along with the correct, vintage-spec heavy Formvar coil wire as used on the originals. We added the benefit of a RWRP middle pickup to achieve hum-cancelling in positions two and four when using a modern 5-way switch. We also increased the output of the pickups as they move towards the bridge to achieve a perfect balance of output and tone without the weak ice pick tone on the bridge pickup. Each pickup set is fully wax potted to eliminate unwanted feedback.

-Non-RWRP Middle pickup- Although the original 50's strat pickups were all wound in the same direction and polarity, we decided to make them stock with a RWRP pickup because most people prefer to have have them hum-cancelling in 2 and 4 positions with a 5-way switch.
